Blind Cleaning Business Models

Blind and drapery cleaning businesses commonly operate either from a mobile or shop-based model or hybrid of both:

Mobile Cleaning: This involves a vehicle equipped for cleaning blinds or draperies on-site at the customer’s location either in a truck or trailer or in the facility.

Shop-Based: Items are transported to a dedicated cleaning workspace for cleaning in many types of blinds or drapery. (Cleaning of larger jobs may still be offered on location, depending upon the logistics.)

Successful blind and drapery cleaners develop the best blend of these models that works – taking into consideration their business goals, market, climate and customers needs.

Blind Cleaning Methods & Equipment

Hand Cleaning

Professional blind cleaners DO NOT clean custom blinds as pictured above! Hand brushing or cleaning methods are suitable for for mini blinds, faux woods, and some fabric shades using mild cleaning solutions and proper procedures. Equipment: Portable washboard, plastic table, or wash wall. Limitations: Hand cleaning is labor-intensive and is not as effective, safe or thorough for many types of blinds.

Ultrasonic Blind Cleaning

Ultrasonic technology utilizes the energy of sound waves passing through the cleaning solution to lift dirt off EVERY surface of the immersed item.
Equipment: Ultrasonic tanks, drying racks, fans. Limitations: Only items safe to immerse in water can be cleaned with the proper procedures. Level of effectiveness depends upon cleaning technician's mastery of the right chemistry and procedures.

Note: Research before purchasing a new or used ultrasonic blind cleaner as tank size, frequency and other features matter.

On-Site Fabricare (Injection-Extraction)

Specialized portable machine sprays and extracts either water or solvent based cleaning solution into the fabric as appropriate to the type of material..

Equipment: Bin of supplies, portable machine like Kleenrite 204Hx rated for both water/solvent/GreenEarth, hoses, cleaning heads, supplies.

Note: Requires correct machine, safe solvents, knowledge of fabric types and appropriate cleaning methods.
