Silhouette Blinds - Hanging Straight?

Ever seen a Silhouette with a furry, fuzzie or frayed edge?  If a Silhouette shade is not hanging level and out of balance then one edge of the fabric will rub against the side of the header or up against the sides of the shade causing damage.  Often customers aren't even aware of what may be causing their shade to fray along the edges if the problem isn't too severe.  It is, however, often easily cured.

While some shades made by other manufactorers which are similar to Silhouettes do not have an adjustable weight underneath the lower rail, the authentic shades do.  If one notices that the shade is rubbing one side when it is fully raised or if one sees a fuzzy edge on the shade (typically along one edge low on the shade), then check the position of the weight in the rail.

Flip the rail up and see where the center channel weight is currently secured between the two slotted plastic pieces on either side of it.  To adjust the hang of the shade, one can simply use a coin, standard screw driver or flat object to twist the anchoring piece sideways and slide it TOWARDS the side that is rubbing.  If the shade is only rubbing in the bottom foot or so, then a slight adjustment may be all that is necessary.  Roll the shade all the way down and back up slowly between adjustments to see if your adjustments to the weight have been enough - or too much.  Ideally the shade should not be rubbing on either side when fully raised.

If correcting the weight isn't enough to solve the imbalance then there may be a problem with the mounting brackets themselves or the window frame being crooked.  For top mounted brackets one or more shims under the brackets may be needed to level the top of the shade.  Wall or casing mounted shade brackets, of course, should be level with the screws tight so the shade itself stays level.
